This Privacy Policy explains how Lapidaret (“we”, “our”, “us”) collects, uses, and protects your information when you visit or contribute to the website.

Lapidaret is an independent project run by Edi Hamiti.

1. Scope

Lapidaret is a public documentary archive dedicated to mapping and preserving the memory of UÇK memorials in Kosovo.
This policy applies to all visitors and contributors, including members of the diaspora and international users.

2. Information We Collect

Website Visitors

  • Analytics: We use Vercel Analytics to understand how visitors use the site.
  • Cookies: We use cookies for:
    • authentication (admin-only, see below),
    • language preference (via next-intl),
    • analytics.

Submissions

When you submit a memorial, we may collect:

  • GPS coordinates,
  • photos (including metadata such as EXIF data, used only internally to confirm coordinates),
  • your name (optional, displayed with the memorial as “Submitted by …”),
  • your email (optional, used to contact you about the submission’s status).

Anonymous submissions are allowed.

Administration

A hidden login feature exists for site administration.

  • It uses GitHub OAuth.
  • During login, GitHub may provide your email address to our server in order to check authorization.
  • This feature is reserved for internal use only.

3. How We Use the Information

  • To display and document memorials on the site.
  • To contact submitters about their contributions.
  • To improve the site through analytics.
  • In the future, submissions may be shared publicly as part of an open dataset.

We do not sell or use your data for advertising.

4. Data Sharing

  • Hosting & Storage: Submissions and photos are stored using Appwrite.
  • Analytics: Vercel Analytics collects anonymized usage data.
  • We do not share personal information with third parties except as required by law.

5. Data Retention

  • Submissions are kept indefinitely unless the contributor requests deletion.
  • If you wish to delete or modify your submission, please contact us at lapidaret@edihamiti.fr using the same email address you provided during submission.

6. Your Rights

If you are located in the European Union (or similar jurisdictions), you have the right to:

  • access your personal data,
  • correct inaccurate data,
  • request deletion of your data,
  • object to or restrict processing,
  • request a copy of your data in portable format.

7. Children’s Privacy

Lapidaret is not directed at children under the age of 13 (or 16 where required by law).
We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If we learn we have done so, we will delete it.

8. Security

Data is processed and stored using Appwrite and official SDKs (Next.js, next-intl). These providers apply security measures such as encryption and secure storage.
While we strive to protect your information, no method of transmission over the internet is completely secure.

9. Changes to this Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Updates will be published on this page with a new “last updated” date.
