About Lapidaret

Lapidaret is an online archive of memorials dedicated to the Kosovo Liberation Army (UÇK). These memorials are scattered across Kosovo, ranging from large monuments in central squares to modest plaques or gravestones in cemeteries or along roadsides. Together, they form a significant landscape of remembrance.

An official register of memorials is maintained by the Agency for the Management of Monuments of Kosovo (AMMKM). While comprehensive, this register is primarily administrative: entries are brief, technical, and not always easily accessible to the wider public. Lapidaret does not replace the register or expand it with new categories of information. Instead, it presents the same core elements (name, location, and photo(s)) in a format that is meant to be simple to browse and openly accessible.

Each entry contains only essential details. When available, a short description is included, though such information is uncommon. The archive is not interpretative, its aim is quiet documentation. By presenting these elements consistently, Lapidaret allows the memorials to be viewed collectively, providing a sense of their distribution and form without commentary.

Visitors to the site may contribute by suggesting new entries, providing photographs, or proposing corrections through a submission form. All contributions are reviewed before publication to ensure reliability and coherence. This process allows the archive to include material that might not be immediately visible in official sources, particularly local or lesser-known memorials. Contributions help keep the record current and preserve sites that might otherwise remain unrecorded.

The project was created by Edi Hamiti as an independent initiative. It has no institutional affiliation or political alignment. Its purpose is limited to presenting these memorials in a durable digital format, allowing them to be consulted by anyone who wishes to see, study or acknowledge them
